Pdf Icon Changed On Desktop

Pdf icon changed on desktop. Purge and rebuild the iconcache.db file. For some reason, the icons on my desktop for some (but not all) of my pdf files keep changing, from the standard adobe icon to a preview icon that shows the first page of the document. And if so, what's the difference.
